To improve communication and reduce missed appointments Rutherford Medical Centre will provide a free patient text messaging service to send out appointment reminders. This is an additional service and reminders may not be sent on all occasions. The practice would like to thank all patients who advise us if they wish to cancel their appointment or may be late. Please ensure we have your up to date mobile phone number to receive a reminder. If you wish to "opt out" of this service please advise our receptionist.

How to book a home visit

If you need a home visit, we ask that you contact us as early as possible in the morning, preferably before 10.00am.

You may be asked to provide the reception team with some details regarding why you require a home visit. Please do not be offended by this. This information is needed so that the doctor can assess the urgency and prioritise visits.

When to ask for a home visit

Our GP's will carry out home visits, but these are only for patients who are truly housebound, i.e. patients whose condition prevents them from being able to attend surgery.

When not to ask for a home visit

Please do not ask for a home visit unless the patient cannot make it to the surgery.

Most children can be safely brought to the surgery by car.

A number of patients can be seen at the surgery in the time that it takes to visit one patient at home.

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online (111.nhs.uk) or call 111.

111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

The NHS comes under increased pressure during winter, with the arrival of cold weather triggering or worsening some illnesses, meaning that health services are more in demand.

Rutherford Medical Centre will provide additional doctor appointments each week from November – March to deal with the extra strain on services during the winter months.
